The oldest school in Dubai, Al Ahmadiya School celebrated its one hundredth year in existence on Sunday. His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, was also present and actively involved in the centennial celebrations of the school, presenting shields to a total of thirty-four veteran teachers that have taught in the school over the years.
The three day celebratory affair began at the Cultural and Scientific Association in Al Mamzar and then will be shifted to the Al Ahmadiya school center later in the day. Along with honoring the teachers that were a part of this school were long, His Highness also honored more than a hundred students that had studied in this school and were successful and prominent adults now. As a part of the celebrations, Shaikh Mohammad also took a tour of a special photography exhibition that had an array of photographs and souvenirs of the school, covering the history of the school till the present day. Besides Shaikh Mohammad, many prominent political personalities also attended the celebrations, including Shaikh Majed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority; and Mohammed Ahmed Al Murr, Speaker of Federal National Council.
Established in the year 1912 by Shaikh Ahmed bin Dalmuk, Al Ahmadiya school has become a landmark of education in the Middle East. Ensuring that the celebratory event in the school is a success, Abdullah Al Mutairi, an advisor for heritage sites at the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing, said “Traditional bands will commemorate the occasion with heritage songs and dances, particularly those used to be sung by the students of the school in the past.” With the education sector in the Middle East booming, it is little wonder that schools are slowly improving and creating a name for themselves.
